Hi guys

Postby TwangOmatic » Wed Feb 18, 2009 12:32 am

I thought id come here and see what i can learn about Mosrites. I don't actually own one yet but i hope to one day, most likely a copy of some sort since i don't really have the coin for a real one. Anyway i currently own a gretsch, a tele and a danelectro baritone but i really need a good surf guitar and my favorite in concept is the mosrite ventures model with a jazzmaster or jag as runners up. The reason i said "in concept" is that i have never even so much as seen a mosrite in person never mind played one and my biggest concern is that the neck may be too narrow. My hands are probably average to slightly large in size but my finger tips are very round so i tend to like guitars with a wide nut.

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll find a number of people here with similar tastes, let alone similar guitars. From what you describe you'd probably be happiest with a Hallmark Custom 60, which is very true to the design of the Mosrite Ventures model but with a wider nut and larger frets.

+1 on Mel's comment re: the Hallmark 60 Custom. I have a pearl white one, and it is one of my favorites - Neck isn't quite as narrow as the Mosrites, but very playable. BTW, welcome to the forum! If you can find one of the early MIJ clones (Fillmore/Firstman), they are great guitars, also (sometimes you can pick them up on eBay pretty reasonably).
