New member with questions.
New member here. I just picked up a restoration job on an original Mosrite Ventures model guitar. It has been badly butchered by the owner, so I guess 'restoration' is probably not the right term. It was a blue color and he painted it black, and for some reason the 'M' notches on the headstock were cut off. I don't have the original pickups, or pots so I can't date it properly, as I understand that neck serial numbers don't tell much. Just looking for some kind words of wisdom here or some stern warnings or comments....which ever come first
Even though I have been a music store owner, and have been working on guitars for over 20 years, the Mosrite brand is new to my bench.

Welcome to the forum! Serial numbers are a very good way to determine the year. There are other ways as well, but the number is a good way to start.

Re: New member with questions.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Pics on the way. I mounted a Gibson style 3 way switch today, and an input jack. I made a template for the neck plate and just ordered pots. After talking to the owner, and explaining the difference between restoration and functional, playable guitar, I find that his goal is 'Functional playable guitar' and the cheapest way possible. (so much for 3 days of deep research on the 'puter) It's all good....I am thankful for the knowledge I have gleaned from all the great Mosrite folks that I have been in contact with.
