It's funny that you mention the black tape, when I got my 66 twelve string body it had the same black tape in the same location as yours but have since removed. I wonder what that was for.

My guess would be the black tape is to conceal paint showing through a gap between the pickguard and pickup ring. But, this is just a guess as it would serve no purpose otherwise.
