Hutchins mosrite clone. check this one out

hey guys! my friend gave me a link of this guitar it cost 219 USD. made in china.

Well, you can't beat it as far as price goes, I'm just wandering if this is coming
from the same Factory that is manufacturing the EASTWOOD's, being that it comes
with a set (glued in) neck, not to mention the Burns Vibrola System.....

jramonitos: Thanks for sharing. Interesting guitar..

Personally, I think this Chinese maker might have tried to copy too many different things onto the guitar. The German curve is a little too excessive. To me simplicity looks better sometimes.

Please let us know how it sounds and plays if you get to try it

It sure looks like an Eastwood to me. The carving on the upper lower bout is just how Eastwood's look. I just can't see some one copying a copy of a copy. From my limited time ( about 10 min.) playing a Eastwood they seam to be good guitars.

i can't really tell you much about this guitar. my friend who orders guitars in china just gave me a link in some chinese website because he thought it's a mosrite and i might be interested. i dont think i wanna buy it eventhough it's cheap ,but the vibrato unit looks nice to have for a future project.hehehe.

jramonitos, just a little tidbit info to share with you and the Forum,
Very interesting how close each guitar is, and they are all from China, that's
the reason I'm guessing they are coming from the same factory

The 1st one is from Hutchins.
This is probably a "Contracted Name" for a certain Music Store Chain Somewhere on this planet .....


The 2nd-The "Hi-Flyer." This is a copy 'of a copy' of a Mosrite. The ORIGINAL
"HI-FLYERS" were manufactured for Unicord which distributed UNIVOX.
Notice the similarity of the P'ups and Body Style of the "Hi-Flyer" and the "Hutchins."


The 3rd is the "Sidejack" or the "Sidejack Deluxe." All I wanted to show
here is what Desert Surfer had mentioned earlier about the 'Excess'
German Carve (which I agree). The "Hutchins" seems to share the same
German Carve as the "Sidejack" although it is not on the "Hi-Flyer."
This seems to make me believe that ALL these Guitars are being
built and coming from the same Factory.

I've come across on the web another "clone" (Cox Guitars marketed in Europe) that apparently was made in the same Chinese factory as the Eastwood Sidejack. It was exactly the same except for the headstock. I'm pretty sure this factory makes the same model guitar for a lot of companies who just rebrands them. I have the Eastwood Sidejack (looks just like this Hutchins), and while I like the guitar, it is not even close in terms of tone or feel to a Mosrite - just a similar body shape. It's a good sounding P-90 guitar though. By the way - the Burns vibrato tailpiece really sucks.

Byron, I noticed it looks as though Eastwood is 'phasing' those trems out (Burns Vibrato).
I was actually trying to find a pic of one to show that it was the same unit as on the Hutchins,
but I could not find one on the Sidejack. Also, I wander what/who the real company is in China.
We already know that the name "EASTWOOD" is a name of a company started by Michael Robinson
from Canada. I also admire his concept of "bringing back" a variety of CLASSICS without
charging totally ridiculous prices

Are these the same guitars or what? Eastwood changed from the Burns unit to a Jazzmaster-style trem for 2009. The Cox has the "illegal" Bigsby's that Eastwood used to spec. But if you can get the Hutchins for $219 then that sounds like a deal. The Eastwoods go for - gee, now I forgot - about $575?
