Are your templates the ones from guitarbuildingtemplates.com? If so, what do you think of them? I've read that some people here don't like the neck width at the nut / zero fret.

blackie, yes I am using those templates. the outline on the mosrite body seems dead on to me, but the holes for the bridge is wrong for a mosrite style bridge and tremolo, although the placement of the bridge is correct for the right intonation. the shape of the pickup holes are a little off, but thats not a big deal, and the route for the control cavity is wrong too, but again not a big deal.

the template for the neck is too narrow at the nut, but if you were to trace it out with a black sharpie and cut it out outside the line, you would be okay. i shoot for about 1.60 inches at the nut, but they were different on different years for mosrites. probably the most important thing is the headstock on the template is shaped closer to the mark v headstock, which is a little too short for a mark I or ventures one. you need to extend the headstock out a little more, roughly 8 inches from the highest point on the headstock to the zero fret.

hope this helps :)

It certainly does - Thanks!

Edited to add:

If you make the nut area wider, doesn't that effect the taper down to the heel? Is it enough of a difference that you have to modify the pocket?

personally i like to trace out templates using a mechanical pencil because it's more accurate. what i do is just trace out the neck as normal. then at the nut mark it at the distance you would perfer. then just draw a straight like using a ruler or whatever to where the lines met up on the neck farther done. it's not a hugh difference actually. it won't affect the neck pocket at all. it you were to try this you would probably follow it better then i can explain it here. if you have a mosrite you can use to take specs from it, i find that it helps a lot if you are new to guitar building.

one of these days i'm going to make a new neck template so it makes the job a little easier.
