Well, as Bill Gruggett tells it, there was an importer in LA that had a stack of Italian and German-made bodies, finished and unfinished. Semie bought bodies there for the first Celebrities. Joe Hall and Bill Gruggett bought bodies there for their Epcor guitars. The Celebs (and my Gruggett) came from the German prefab stock. The Epcors (and stain...'s Hallmark) came from the Italian prefab stock.

If they were pre-fab does that mean there are other guitars with the same body? Or was the body construction just farmed out?

Personally, I would be much more excited about Celebrities if the neck wasn't set so far into the body.

You mean like THIS!??

Exactly! Now, is the neck set based on model Celeb 1, 2, 3 or year of construction?

And Adam, thanks for the info on the Gruggett and Hallmarks, that's really cool!

And the Correct answer is.....Number #2
That's why I WANT one. I have a '68-'69 Celebrity I with the Neck fitting as such. There is ONLY 3 frets going into the Body (just like on the original Celebrity II that I want), not 5 like on the Original Celebrity from '64-'66 or the Celebrity IIIs. However on the later Celebrity I (like mine), the depth of the body was made deeper, more like the Depth of an ES-175. I don't know why that was done, but it was. But I want a Celebrity II (Thinline like the Original Celebrity or an ES-335) for that reason. There were some 70's Celebrity IIs that shared the same 5 fret inset as the Celeb IIIs, and that is something else I did not understand either, other than cutting costs maybe.....
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.
