It certainly looks like it except for the non-original knobs. Perhaps pics of the inside may promt more knowledgeable folks to chime in. (what year, components etc.).
The casing and lettering are in pretty good shape, I'd say.

Thanks for the reply. Here are pictures of the insides. It's rusty enough inside to be from the 60's.

GREAT DEAL! We should all have buddies like that.
Yes, it certainly does look like a real one, but to me it looks newer than the '60s. The cap on the switch and the transistor types are not the style of the ones used in the older original versions.
If you look at the pot cases, there should be a date code stamped on them. If you find this, you will know when the pots were made, which may or may not help you id the date of the pedal. Mosrite things have been known to have been made up of old and new parts which could skew this dating scheme.
Also tell us what number the transistors are marked as.

OK, I'll see if I can get my bifocals pointed in the right direction to read the numbers on the transistors. I does work, but pops very loudly through the amp if either the on/off switch or the stomp switch are operated. I'm hope to get a bit of a sound bite recorded and posted so you can hear it, I don't know what it's supposed to sound like.

Art, you can get a pretty fair idea of what it sounds like by listening to the sample lick provided by the maker of a clone Fuzzrite, callen the Fuzzbrite

Thanks for the link.
Sounds pretty much spot on... very, well... fuzzy!

I can't get things twisted around enough to get a really good look at the transistors.

BTW, the backsides of the pots are smooth/bare. No markings of any kind.
I sent an email to my buddy, asking about the knobs. He thinks he purchased it in 1968, and he's sure the knobs are the originals.

The transistors look like they are house numbered made by Fairchild. The pots may have marking on the side of the cases.
I've not seen those parts used in one before, but there are many different versions out there. I have seen those knobs used on these before, so they may be original to the unit.
Just like the guitars out there, there were a lot of parts out there so it could be that this is a partsrite version fuzzrite. Do you know where your buddy bought it?
