And after adding several coats of sanding sealer and sanding vigorously between coats, first using 120, then 220, and finally 320 grits, she was ready to be painted.

Today I went to my local auto supply stores and paint shops and found this cool looking lacquer. It kinda looks like vanilla ice cream. here's what the guitar looked like after two coats...





I will probably add 6-8 more coats of white then about 8-10 coats of clear.

update: well I finally got the truss rod channel cut right on this project and installled the truss rod and reglued down the fretboard. in the mean time I been working on the headstock decal of this guitar. special thanks goes to my brother Alva for all his graphic design work, he's the one that came up with the logo for me. what you guys think?

update: i've ordered the last of the hardware for this guitar. all that's left is to finish painting the color coat and spraying the clear on the body. on the neck i stained the maple with a natural stain to show the grain better and I've began clear coating the neck. i still need to apply the headstock decal so ive stopped lacquering it for now until i get the decal made. still need to do the fret dress.
I completed cutting the pickguard (5 ply Max! lol) and i've started the wiring harness. I choose to use a push/push 500 k volume pot to coil tap the pickup. im winding the pickup now; using 42 gauge wire instead of the 43 because its what i have on hand, and giving it a generous 20,000 turns. the pickup will be roughly 18k, 9k at the coil tap. I will post pictures tomorrow

this first pickguard I made turned out great until I began cutting the 45 degree angle. the bit I had wasn't greatest and broke up the guard badly, so I had to remake it. it all worked out though, I made the new guard with a 5 ply like johnny's so it added to the look I think.

the neck heal was still a bit tall, so I had to trim that down and shape the neck profile a little...
