Getting my 2nd MIJ Mosrite

First of all, sorry for not checking in more often. But anyway, I'm going to be making a trade this week - I'll be trading away my greenburst Eastwood Sidekack and a pink-sparkle Dipinto Galaxy 4 for a Kurukomo Excellent Mosrite (white w/ tortoise-shell pickguard). My friend and bandmate bought this Mosrite early this year but he just cannot get used to the skinny Mosrite neck. I however have made my peace with them - I don't mind the neck at all. He's also the one whom I got the candy red Firstman from. Anyway I hope he's as happy with the trade as I am . I'll post pictures at a later date.

Congratulations Byron - like Danny said, nice to see you back here on the forum. How's the surf music scene in Hawaii these days?

Mel, you'd think in Hawaii there would be a surf music scene, but sadly there is none. There are a couple of bands here and there but no scene. It would be great to be able to do gigs with other bands and have surf extravaganzas, but there just aren't enough bands.

On another note, we are finishing up our 2nd cd - my 1st with the band. There will be a lot of Mosrite on it - at least on the tunes I'm playing lead on. It'll be half originals and half covers.

I went over there about fifteen years ago. Went looking for some traditional Hawaiian music, especially with steel guitar, and I couldn't find any! I had heard that country music was popular, but I couldn't find any of that either. Lots of reggae bands, though--some of them pretty darn good. Apparently, if you didn't play reggae you didn't work. I have nothing against reggae, but I think it's a darn shame that I couldn't find any steel guitar in the homeland of Hawaiian guitar. I guess there's no blues left in Chicago either...

Yup, there is a LOT of the local hybrid of reggae-pop known here as "Jawaiian". Good musicians but the music is just vapid. In fact, every oldie song you can think of has probably been reggae-fied! Not enough of the old school Hawaiian music, although it is there. There was a country scene - in fact I was in one of the bands - but it's all fizzled out. The last remaining country bar closed up a few years ago - The Pecos Bar & Grill. What a shame.
