That was the saddest thing I ever saw!

The guy brings in the guitar for a set-up. He said he thought that a lighter body would help the sound. So he took a 1" spade bit and drilled randomly spaced holes all over the body.

This was only twenty years or so ago so the guitar was worth something even back then. To him, he was making it "better".

here are some more pictures. Any help in figuring out what year it was made would be a huge help.

it may be hard to tell from the pic, but the top point of the head stock is 7.5 inches from the metal nut

A lot of it suggest mid '60s. But......as Dennis pointed out some things just don't add up. Take the neck off and see if a date stamp is still on the bottom of the neck and in the neck pocket. It's either a genuine USA Mosrite or a Japanese copy of some sorts. Are the screw threads American standard or metric? Are the electronics American and do the have a visible date or product code on them? These are things that can help identify it's heritage. It could possibly be a Japanese clone form the late sixties or seventies. The case appears to be a genuine '60s Mosrite.

I just measured my '65, and to my surprise, it actually measures very close to your first PIC. I went by that one being that you had the tape measure lined up more accurately. So the only thing I can come up with, is that the DEEP CUT into the Headstock is creating an optical illusion. Also, upon looking at the frets, are they the speed frets (very low to the fretboard)? Because looking at the one PIC, they seemed to look awfully 'thick' and seemed to look almost like a medium jumbo type frets.....But again, the PIC could be throwing me....

the frets are fat in width but slim in height.

I would not be surprised if it was refretted. The body was butchered in about 82 and from the look of the thing, I think the guy wanted a BCRich style guitar. So speed frets would make sense.

but on the other hand, I don't know if this person was clever enough to refret a guitar.

Actually, your Headstock made me think of the All Aluminum Veleno Guitar
Well, a lot of other things suggest that yours is a '65. Besides the date stamped, the one pot is suggesting that it was manufactured the 34th week of 1965 as well. And if all the Hardware is Original, this would be the first time that I have seen a Moseley Unit on a '65 this early (Oct 14th). Most Moseley units (that I knew of) were being installed for the first time around the last week of Nov and the first week of Dec......But there's always a new surprise 'around the corner' and again, if the Hardware is ALL Original......well....I stand corrected.....
