He mentioned the pots would tell the story whether or not this is truly a Semie-made Nokie model, so I sent him pics of that. I'm excited to hear what he has to say! (But a little afraid, he seemed doubtful this is authentic :o) Perhaps the mystery behind this guitar will finally be uncovered.

Hi, Dillon:

It is a very nice guitar and I think it is authentic. Unfortunately, I am retired and have to watch my spending. Otherwise, I would have jumped on this one.

I probably know the guy who contacted you on eBay. If he is the guy I have in mind. He indeed has a very nice prototype Nokie model in metallic black which was made before Semie's passing. The prototype has a different body, no curve and is heavier. I heard both Nokie and Semie felt that the prototype sample was too heavy and that's probably why they changed it.

My guess that your guitar was probably assembled by the Mosrite factory in Bonneville, Arkansas run by Semie's Window and his brother after Semie's passing.

I am no expert on Mosrites and could be wrong. But I think the pot info should confirm that this guitar was assembled with the original Semie's components.

Hope my 2 cents speculation will help you.

Best luck with your sales on eBay.

:)

Art Greenhaw:

owns a Nokie model. He's done alot of work with him too. I don't know if he's the guy that contacted you, but I'm sure he could give you some information as to the legitimacy of it.
Actually, I think the blue guitar on his homepage is one?

The guy who contacted me on eBay was named Larry...so I don't think that's him. Thanks, though.

I emailed Bob Shade and he said that the pictures of the pots are indicative of Semie's work at the time. I believe this guitar is authentic.

The auction just ended. The winning bidder seems to be quite sketchy...Shop Airlines America, a Japanese company. I will wait for correspondence, but I wouldn't be surprised if I have to relist this :( I CLEARLY stated I am not willing to ship internationally...and although this company has an address in Los Angeles...I can see where this is going. Ugh, I REALLY did not want this guitar to go to Japan. I love Japan and am quite fascinated by their culture, but I hate to see something so clearly American leave the country, never to be found again.

Edit: I am reading horror stories about these guys. I really don't want to deal with this. They won't take calls, only email. And they don't speak English well. I should have known this was coming  Anyone have advice on what to do?

Well maybe you've just realized the sentimental attachment you have to the item, unless ebay has some clause saying you have to sell it to them. Re-list it later

Hah, I guess you're right. I'm probably more attached to it than I realized. I would not be selling it if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't get played much. I've moved on in that regard, I guess. But it's more out of principle...I just don't like knowing that my guitar is going to some person that I will never get the chance to speak to. (Since it's going through a broker.) I had hoped to be able to stay in touch with the buyer. Then again, I did get far more for it than I expected, so maybe I shouldn't be complaining :P I'll keep you guys updated on what happens.

My thing is if you clearly stated no international sales then it's their own stupidity for not reading the full item description. And the fact they don't take calls raises a red flag and if they don't speak English then what good is an email going to do.
