ginchysurfer here. joined the forum a couple months back. havent had much to post until now. why are some of you constantly bashing ed roman and fillmore. if it wasnt for them i wouldnt have the great mosrite i have now. i saw his add sometime back for lefthanded mosrites. i was overjoyed. threw my wife in the car and drove straight to vegas. they had 5 at the time. i played them all. i spent 3 to 4 hrs. messing with them. the salesman was professional and courteious. i offered cash price out the door. they accepted and i bought the candy red one. they bought lunch, set it up with new strings, gave me extra strigs, gave my wife and i t-shirts. met ed when we came back from lunch. he appeared to be nice guy to me. great experience. short time later the rest of the lefthanded were gone. i fell lucky to get one. i joined sg101 and this forum at the same time. sg101 has turned into a bunch of nasty remarks made by a few. a lot of members but only a few actually participate. (i wonder why). this forum is pretty good. i hope it doesnt go the way of sg101. best regards ginchysurfer!

ginchysurfer,

As for this forum turning nasty, it isn't going to happen. Mel, Dennis and myself monitor it constantly. So far, unless I've had a brain fade, I haven't seen anyone get out of line. We like to consider this forum friendly and family orientated.

As for Ed Roman, probably 99% of all the forum members have never met him, but a few have had telephone contact and the report of their experience wasn't pleasant. I have reviewed his web site regarding Mosrites and have to say he does have a 'way with words' that would stump the Pope. On his website he uses words like 'slimeball' to point out other people selling Mosrite's. To me using that adolescent type language is very unprofessional on a business web site That's great that you had a pleasant experience with your purchase and I'd like to hear more positive things about him and his business.

As for Fillmore, again unless I missed something, I've never heard anything bad other than their comparison to an original. Fillmore did get a monopoly on the Japanese made Mosrites for the past couple of years and caused the termination of other Mosrite clone manufactures to either go out of business or at least ceased making Mosrite guitars. Now apparently all that is changing. which to me is GREAT news because Kurokumo 'Dark Cloud' makes the better copy. But that's just my opinion.

As I said in my post, I met with Ed Roman and spent a couple hours with him. He was nice to me and was fun to chat with (well, you have to put up with some of his F words) He is a talented man with strong personality. His remarks on website are a little too strong sometime but that's the way he is. I respect him as a talented guitar designer, successful businessman, but I can't call him a good friend or a seller with super deals.

The salespeople in his store are very friendly and nice. I enjoyed my many visits there. But they have to go thru Ed for key price negotiation. Frankly, the guitars I was interested were way overpriced.

As far as Fillmore is concerned, I have less respect. Mainly because the way he used legal loophole to register and stole Mosrtie name in Japan, then forbid everyone else to make Mosrtie guitars. That's not fairness nor justice to me. Everyone can form their own opinion, this is just my personal view.

I agree totally with your comments on SG101. I walked away from that forum long time ago.

I'm still waiting for Kurokumo to reply regarding my questions on buying a guitar direct from them.
Got any contacts, Desert Surfer?

Thanks for posting those pics, Vincent. Those are both real beauties. The '63 sidejack model in your picture is exactly what I would like to get. Do you know the exact name Kurokumo uses for this model? Perhaps I will inquire...

You are very welcome.

I think the frist one was called "'63 Super Custom deluxe" (replica of '63 side jack). But I am not sure. The best way is to attach my photo to them. Mine has binding on body and neck. Some cheaper models are without binding.

The 2nd one was Nokie Edwards Mosrite prototype. Nokie decided not to go for it and went on his "HitchHiker" project. I heard Kurokuma has been selling the exact model (without Nokie Edwards' signature, of course) The best way, again is to attached the photo and ask them.

Both of them sound pretty close to my '66 Mosrite. A little brighter tone, not as warm as the vintage Mosrite, but very close.

That may be it. I remember it was an alder body and a lacquer finish, and of course, a glue-in neck like the original. The cherry sunburst finish on the Nokie looks nice too, even though not authentic to a '63. I think Semi did bursts like that in the late 80's for the sidejack reissues. Interesting about the wider fret board. That would definitely fit my Fenderized hands, but sometimes I think a change to the feel of a neck can be a good thing.
