New Hallmark Custom 60

Postby beenawhile » Sat Jan 15, 2011 10:16 pm

Finally, the wait is over :!: :!: :!: :!:

After about a year of searching, I purchase a used pearl white Custom 60. Suffice to say, I have been playing a LOT of Ventures material this week :D

Much thanks to everyone on the forum for helping me to make an informed purchase. Very happy to have this one :!:

Is this guitar the one that Mike from "The 'Verb" was selling?

Yep. And I understand he bought from a surf band member from Colorado - is that you?

I was a member of a surf band called The Verbtones out of Portland a few years back - we shared the bill with the Verb for quite a few shows. I saw the listing on ebay, but figured there was a Verb connection - and sure enough it was Mike. So this guitar has some nice 'surf band' history.

The guitar is in incredibly good condition considering - other than some mild fret wear.

I made one quick mod - adding a new alloy hex head screw to the trem assembly - and some nice mylar washers. A big improvement, in my opinion.

Yes, I'm the guy from CO. It's cool seeing the guitar again. I wondered if Mike still had it right about the time it popped up on ebay.

Oh, The Verbtones - I know Kyle from SG101.

That's a beaut! It's from the first production run--later ones have headstocks painted to match the body, and a metal nut/string guide instead of the white one.
