BTW, I talked to one of the "Burst Brothers" (I forget which one) to notify him that
this guitar was definitely a '61 or '62, which he E-Mailed me back and later confirmed.
I'm surprised that they have not corrected this yet.....
p.s. Note the Vibro-mute on the six string bridge ;) .
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Dennis, does that one have the wooden pickup covers like Damon's. I can't quite see it with enough resolution to make it out.

Trent, I honestly don't know. I don't know if Semie was doing that on Special Custom Order Guitars or not.
I do know he was already using the plastic (nylon?) type molds on the '61 and 62s, however he was still shy
of making them with the pick-up rings which I think we started seeing those sometime in mid '62..

Thanks Dennis, yea, no biggie, just curious. It's really interesting to see how much these guitars varied over the short number of years they were made. Look at all the different pickguard configurations on the doublenecks. Part of the appeal of Mosrite models is that sort of 'production model yet handcrafted' quality to them. Lots of one-offs.
Back on topic. For Danny: What is the thickness/depth of the german carve from where the binding would go to the very top center of the guitar's front?

Progress report: I have now sprayed the silver underbase, transparent blue color coat and two heavy wet coats of clear lacquer on the bass project. I will allowed it to cure for a while then wet sand it and spray additional clear coats. The final stage will be to wet sand then polish with rubbing compound to achieve a glass smooth high gloss finish. Stay tuned, for the next pictures you see will be the assemebled finished guitar.

That it is. Ain't it amazing what one can do with a brown paper bag.

For everyone else, Dennis made a tracing of his Mosrite bass and sent it to me. That is what I used for the pattern to make this one. I didn't have access to a Mosrite bass when I started this project.

That looks great! My only bit of advice would be to avoid the "standard" Mosrite wiring scheme because the "combined" pickup setting on the 2-pickup basses is virtually useless, huge volume drop and pretty thin sound.

Yeah I definitely agree. I had it wired and played it for a while before taking it back apart for the finish. I also purchased a '72 two pickup. If I was to build another, I would never waste the time and money on a two pickup Mosrite clone bass. Maybe Bob Bogle was onto something with his two pickup, three control Mosrite bass way back when.
