Would you buy a CD with 12 cuts of 1 song?

Back in '65, a movie called "The Knack" won the Cannes film festival.

Perhaps its best feature was the soundtrack by John Barry, which featured the theme song being played in differnt temos, keys, instrumental and vocal...12 ways.

Personally, 'would LOVE to see some disks of immortal tunes being done as a whole album, by different bands.

Actually, I have the Rhino release of "The Best Of Louie Louie"..as you have guessed multi tacks of the garage classic
Not quite all the same track (though close) is "Last Wall Of The Castle" by Arthur Lee and Love...most of the cd is studio takes of 7&7 Is

Interesting thought Haole Jim.
An idea has been milling in my mind for some time now and that it to make my own compilation CR-R featuring first an original tune, followed by various more notable covers and of course, including one or several venturized versions!!...
Take "Walk, Don't Run" for instance: a track of the original tune by Johnny Smith followed by Chet Atkins' version followed bij several of the Ventures' etc.
"Pipeline" would feature The Chantays first followed by others including the Ventures' version(s), etc. etc.
But a commercial issue of such discs would only appeal to a limited group of buyers, I would imagine.

Kind of funny, The very first thing that came to mind while reading your post was The Presidents of the United States of America's EP, "Munky River". I wasn't sure how many different versions of the song were on the disc before looking it up but there turned out to be 12. I don't have a copy but it seems like a few versions are demos.

Somehow I missed replying to the real question. Yes, I would buy a CD like that. It depends on the band and song though, I'd buy a copy of the Munky River CD I talked about earlier.

I forgot to answer the title question. I have seen some of those albums in record stores - but didn't buy them. Why? Two reasons:

- the kind of record stores that have stuff like that in stock, always have lots of other interesting instro albums as well. There's always something to else buy instead on a must-have basis.
- I tend to already have the most essential versions, The Ventures, The Shadows etc, of the songs anyway.

To respond to the post..overall I would not buy a cd of a bunch of versions of the same song,,for me, better is a comp of different artists of a particular genre instro surf/jazz/country etc...
