Aloha

Postby Aloha_Screwdriver » Tue Aug 03, 2010 10:56 pm

Hey there,
I'm Don, I play guitar in the instrumental surf group Aloha Screwdriver, and I own two Hallmark guitars, with hopes of someday adding a vintage Mosrite to my collection. I have to say, though, I really love my Hallmarks, and I've found some of the best discussions of them here at Mosrite Forum.

Here's a collection of photos I took of my 60 Custom:

...and here's my latest pride and joy, the Wing-Bat:

I play through a '70s silverface Fender Twin Reverb. I live in Alameda, CA.
My guitar hero is Star Crunch from Man Or Astroman?

Cool band name, Don!
Welcome aboard, from another Hallmark 60C owner, and Mosrite admirer.
Star Crunch is a member of this forum, BTW. I noticed in some videos of MOAM? shows from a couple a weeks ago, S.C. has retired the white Mosrite from the stage and replaced it with a Dove White Hallmark 60 Custom.
What niche of instrumental surf music does Aloha Screwdriver play?

Glad to know I'm in such good company. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. :)

So far, I'd say the Aloha Screwdriver sound falls somewhere between Man or Astroman? and Dick Dale at his most aggressive. I have to admit that the majority of surf music isn't my cup of tea. I only really like the stuff that makes me uncontrollably slam the gas pedal.

If any of you folks are in the Bay Area, we've got an amazing show in S.F. coming up in September opening for fellow Mosrite-fans, Southern Culture On the Skids.

The promo pic on that page even has a Mosrite neck in the foreground.

Sounds good. Look forward to seeing videos of Aloha Screwdriver someday soon.
Also, I have seen SCOTS a number of times. For aggressive surf instro, check out their tune "Meximelt" if you haven't already.
Included in that picture is Rick Miller's metallic green Mark 1. He has been know to gig with it on occasion.
