Went to pay for the nokie this evening. It's officially mine :) Unfortunately I can't bring 'er home until the 20th. Apparently, in this area we have what's called a "police hold"...when someone sells a guitar (or anything, really) to a store that does resale, the item goes on police hold for 30 days. In this time period, the item is investigated to make sure it's not stolen, and the store isn't allowed to officially sell the item. I guess that means this guitar hadn't been there long at all...no surprise really. I'm hoping they'll rescind the hold before the 20th...the wait is killing me!

While I was there, I happened to talk to the employee who bought the guitar. He said it was from an estate sale of sorts...it belonged to the previous owner's father, who had just passed away. Apparently he had a collection of something like 50 rare guitars. This was one of 15 that this store bought from him. I can't help but wonder what else was in the collection...I'll never know, but I'm glad I found this thing. Now to start asking around for more details on it...I'm hoping I can find someone who can tell me how many of these were actually made, and place a real world value on it. Not that the value matters all that much, because I'm sure I won't be letting it go any time soon :D I'd like to know though.

Great catch there. The first Mosrite I ever saw close up in a shop was back in 1996 and it also was a Nokie model - a sunburst one with maple fretboard to be exact - but it was going for about $3500 Australian so I had to pass.
I wish it had cost what you paid for yours; I'd have snapped it up no worries.
Bill.

Maybe this will keep you happy until Dillon can properly document it.

Thanks for the pics handbrake! And I have to say thanks again for not buying this out from under me :)

Check this out guys. I found this page while searching for more info on Nokie models:

http://www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~mos.1963/collection-1.htm

There is one just like mine on there. The only difference being the pickguard, which if you translate that page, it says it's custom. Also, mine is not signed by Semie, which actually kind of concerns me...I read somewhere that all USA Mosrites from that era were signed by Semie. Anyone know if that's true?

Edit: I also found this

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/k-gakki/mos-nokie1988ltd-sbl/

Very interesting that Fillmore is making copies of these guitars. However mine is clearly NOT one of these. That's reassuring. This, might I add, looks a lot cheaper overall than the real thing.

Enjoy! You made a great deal on that guitar. I paid almost that much for the parts to put one together ... ;)
