I use D'Addario 115W. That is 11-49 with a 21 wound 3rd.

On my 52 Tele RI I have started using Curt Mangan Pure Nickel 10-46. I was using DR's but I am really liking the CM's

On my Hallmark 60's Custom and my Gretsch 6120/59 I'm using Curt Mangan 10-52 nickle wound (they don't make pure nickle strings for the LT/HB sets) and again I am very happy with them.

My fallback has been D'Adarrio 10-52.

The Curt Mangan strings have a good tone and longevity is about the same if not more than the D'Addarios.

It depends on the instrument. I start with 10s on most guitars now and then I'll go from there. I like 10-52s (With a wound G) On my 335 copy and have gone as far as playing 13s on that guitar. On my Tele I like 10s, On my Global LP Copy I like 11-48 Nickel Wounds... I think I'd like 11s or heavier on a Mustang if I had one.

Right now I have D'Addario Chromes 11-50 on my Jaguars, but I'm transitioning them to 12s. Not enough tension on them right now.

I put a set of the 11 gauge Chromes on my H60C, but I'll go back to roundwound 10s for the next string change. It was an interesting experiment, but to my ear that "Mosrite Magic" is best acheived with lighter gauge rounds.

As far as my Strats go, I like to have one with 11 gauge rounds and one with 11 gauge flats. I tend to play the bridge p'up more with the flats and the neck or mid pup more with the rounds. I really like how well my Strat with flats holds up to heavy vibrato use without going out of tune.

This is probably the best thread to ask this:

was there ever a standard gauge for strings that the 60's mosrites shipped with?

And how heavy do people normally go with a ventures model mosrite?
