I think the Vibramute also adds to the tone of the guitar. I had my Hallmark pickups on my Mosrite and they were brighter sounding. The only difference was the bridge going into metal versus going into wood. They were not as bright as Mosrite pickups but are  brighter sounding on the Mosrite.

I had a Fender Jaguar that had a mute on it, and I always thought it was unnecessary and in my way......I always preferred to use my hand to mute anyway......another reason why I would prefer the custom 60 to the custom 59...
