DOWNLOADING VENTURES TUNES...

Postby Veenture » Mon Jan 12, 2009 12:51 pm

I’d like to share with you if I may; some of my findings regarding mp3 downloads, particularly with regard to THE VENTURES, (of course!) in the hope that it may prove helpful to others too as it has been for me.

Most of us serious collectors of VENTURES tunes are aware of the many alternate takes, versions/mixes, different arrangements etc., not to mention the pile of re-recordings they’ve made over the past 50(!) years or so, that have been published. I imagine therefore that we all have our wants list and I for one try to narrow it down all the time…

When I go shopping on the internet for those illusive Ventures tunes, I always like to first check out a complete track whenever possible in certain cases, before buying so as to avoid unnecessary duplication in my music collection.
Now usually most (pay) download sites offer only a short clip and sometimes that’s not enough to make a positive identification of a track I’m looking for or perhaps to discover something new even.

Last year one day, while web surfing, I happened to stumble upon a new but unknown version of “DETOUR” which first appeared on “The Ventures” album (1961).
The newly recorded “Detour” was perhaps meant for their “GOLD” album published in 1999 but evidently didn’t make it somehow.
I then searched -in vain- for it’s possible release on some other CD but can only come to the conclusion that it has been released on the web only. Possibly in 2005 and -as I later discovered- together with about 15(!) more ‘unknown’ recordings that seem to have been released on the web only, as far as I can tell.

Needless to say I bought the lot and made myself a nice compilation CD (named it “SAXY VENTURES!”) -unique in the whole world (lol).

Take a listen to the full-length 1999 recording of DETOUR (and many other tracks too and all in stereo) that I had discovered at:

http://www.deezer.com/track/detour-T146 ... 20ventures

Check it out and enjoy!

Yeah, Freddie's Jukebox is an excellent link too, for Ventures and many others, although...in mono only. However, you can download the tracks by playing them first through your own computer media player and from there, save them onto your hard disc ;)

But if you prefer to listen in stereo, the DEEZER link is still there but on a different page, here ya go Jim: http://www.deezer.com/en/track/detour-T ... e-ventures

Wow! What a great find. Thanks for sharing that link Paul. Not just Ventures stuff, it has most all my favorite Blues artist recordings too. ;)

Back during my Napster days, I downloaded quite a few Ventures songs along with other guitar instrumental groups. I noticed on some of the titles quite a few other groups covered the song. I figure some are obscure covers, others not. Here are three well known instrumental songs and groups that covered them. APACHE, WALK DON"T RUN, and PIPELINE. The mp3 are approx 2 meg each 128 bitrate. I'll be happy to share with anyone on the forum. PM me if you would like a tune with your email and I'll email it to you as an attachment. PS, I believe Terauchi plays a Mostrite.

APACHE:

Agents & Jorma Kääriäinen
Al Caiola
Bert Weedon
Blue Hawaiians
Danny Gatton
Davie Allen & the Arrows
Duane Eddy
Jet Harris
Jimmy Thackery
Jorgen Ingmann
Link Wray
Ricky King
Richie Blackmore
Rocking Tigers
Santo and Johnny
Shadows
Sonny James
Taivakunta Beat
Takeshi Terauchi

PIPELINE:

Blue Hawaiians
Bobby Fuller four
bruce johnston
Dick Dale
Duane Eddy
GUITARFREAKS
Hank Marvin
Johnny Thunders
Krontjong Devils
Lively ones
Stranglers
Takeshi Terauchi
Thin Lizzy

WALK DON'T RUN:

Chet Atkins
Col Joye & The Joy Boys
Jeff Beck
John Barry
Johnny Smith
Pink Fairies
Shadows
Steve Howe
Takeshi Terauchi

(I'll keep this open for a week or two depending on how many want a tune) :)

Bigwave.......if you would, please email me "Apache" by Jorgen Ingmann...........I tried to PM you, but not sure if it went through.........my email is rog43win@gmail.com .....

Does anyone have "Memphis" by Lonnie Mack anywhere online? ....I have the original 45 vinyl, but can't find it online .......only when he plays it with SRV, etc.......but I think I read where Lonnie was only about 17 when he recorded Memphis......back in the day, Memphis was the benchmark of a really good lead guitarman..........truly some dazzlin' runs in that one!
