The Ventures on Huckabee 2/6/10

Postby jtarbutn » Sun Feb 07, 2010 6:48 pm

Did any of you see it? If so, what did you think of their performance? I got in at the very end. Luckily I was able to get my DVR to record it even tho it was almost over.

Yeah, I saw that. I made a post about it last night but after 16 different people viewed it with no response I got to feeling maybe I was in wrong company if you know what I mean. I decided to go ahead and delete it. Glad someone else watches the Fox News channel. ;)

I try to avoid Fox News, but I sure would like to see a clip of the Ventures' segment of that show!

I saw them last night (Sunday, the re-run). The Wilson Bros. guitars looked pretty good but the band sounded a little thin to me.

I caught the Sunday version also. The overall mix was a mess, but what do you want from a live broadcast, and a "news" show to boot. All of the guitars were thin sounding and unfortunately, Nokie's was the worst. I felt so sorry for him having to deal with all of that. Bob, the new guy, had the best sound. His Wilson brother's model had the "strat" three pick-up configuration and sounded good on "Walk-Don't Run".
It was worth missing a little football to see what's left of the legendary Ventures.
Nokie still rules.

Pretty cool - yes, the sound quality was poor, but good for Mike Huckabee for having them on. Now, maybe it's just me, but when Mr. Huckabee was talking between songs, he reminded me vaguely of Bing Concepcion, the MC from the Live in Japan 65 tour. And how cool would it be if Huckabee cut a record with John Kerry on guitar, Bill Clinton on sax, and Condi Rice on piano. Not sure who in the American political arena plays drums, but there must be someone!

Desert Surfer--thanks for posting that clip. Very cool. Spalding's got a Wilson Bros. guitar that I didn't know existed--looks like a Japanese-made VCM with three single-coils and a Strat-style bridge. If that had been available a few years ago when I ordered a VCM2003 (like Don's but without body binding), I'd have gotten it instead. Spalding's guitar isn't shown on the Wilson Bros. website--maybe it's a one-off they made for him.

Hey, that was great, I did get to see it. Thanks for posting Vincent.
Yeah, the sound...but they did play LIVE! ...always different to studio recordings ;)
