Hallmark II Sheena model

I know, been holding out for a couple of sales on a few of my guitars before jumping at anything new. There have also been some vintage Mosrites I've been checking out. Definitely want the case, as it is a couple of my Mosrites are in weird cases.

man oh man i really wanna know what hallmark are planning to do with the vibrato system for the II. i wonder if they will actually improve it to the point where it'll only be visually the same (i imagine that would be better in the long run) or if they'll keep them 100% original.... thing is i hear the oringial mkII vibrato quality was REALLY poor.

I wouldn't say that the original vibrato was bad, works ok, would work better with rollers. Bigger problem is the original slab guitar is very flimsy. I am stunned that Johnnys took the abuse that it did.

Ohh fair enough ive just heard so many bad comments about it and stuff. isnt the sheena made of alder instead of basswood for durabilities sake?

Johnny's even had a worn out neck pocket that could have been repaired but he just left it. How thin and delicate are original Mark IIs?

Yes, They're made out of Alder. A lot better than the originals, Or reissues. Why the Filmore reissues are made out of basswood boggles the mind, I wouldn't want to pay over $1,000 for a new guitar made out of basswood!

What boggles me is why they have an original MKII yet th eonly thing they really copied for the reissues is the body shape and neck. i mean why not use the original pups and vibrato aswell?

They did once in 2005 or so (Minus the vibrato) But those didn't sell very well. JohnnySonic has one, See this post.

I understand a lot of people dont like basswood, but a lot of mosrites were made from that wood. Eddy's mosrite copies are made of basswood, and they look pretty sweet to me. I agree that alder sustains far better, but still over all I think basswood is a fine wood for guitars. But thats just one person's humble opinion.

Either way, they seem to be pretty rare. I guess they had the originals in mind when they built mine, but I wouldn't go so fas as to calling it a reissue. It's a nice guitar in its own right, but they skipped too many details to fairly be able to call it a reissue. Love it though!

Yeah it is a really nice guitar i think the pups a bit bigger than the originals but still looks great...
I still really hope hallmark are gonna start making II's in different finishes as a standard (Surf Green or sunburst would be sweet!)
