Exactly!
A lot of people tend to forget that. Just because you've got a Mark II:ish model doesn't mean you automatically have to play Ramones-style punk rock on it. I don't think Johnny would be too keen on all these people trying to copy his style. ;) He stated many many times that you just have to get out there, be yourself and try to be original. That was the only way.

And nobody will ever REALLY nail it. Because you just don't have his hands.
Being influenced by someone is great, just don't let it go to your head completely. That's my opinion anyways. :)

it seems to me lot of people that aren't into punk don't seem to get it. Johnny Ramone is to punk, as chuck berry and elvis is to rock n roll, just as Nokie Edwards is to surf. the rolling stones, the beatles, and countless others just copied the guys from the 50's but no one says that kind of thing to them.

I can play all kinds of styles, but the only thing I really play well is in the style of punk, and that comes from practicing to ramones songs. if defines me as a player.

The only band Johnny was ever threaten by, John said this band was just as good as the ramones, was the Clash. everyone said the clash was just coping the ramones, by Johnny was friends with all of them.

as for coping, Johnny copied fred sonic smith quite a bit as well.

Having heard Deke play one of these in the Ramones tribute at the GGF, I'd say this thing nails the early Johnny Ramones sound. I'm not a particularly big fan of the Ramones, but that sound was instantly identifiable. Wow!

Does anyone feel in the mood to see early Ramones footage featuring Johnny's blue Mark II before he modified it? There's a good close up of the guitar at 3:36.

I'm on the last chapter of "I Slept With Joey Ramone" written by his younger brother. Johnny Ramone has been an idol of mine forever, but it is common knowledge that he was quite the a-hole & this book does nothing to change this.

What kinda threw me was how much an a-hole Joey was. I knew he had OCD pretty bad, but this book does not paint him as a very nice dude.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! In the end, Joey dies.

yeah, Joey really couldn't let go of a grudge.

by the way, I dont think Johnny really ever modified his blue mosrite. the mods came to his white one, later on.

Read Dee Dee's book and Montys book and you'll see what a wacky group Johnny had to deal with for 22 years in a van. Please Kill Me also paints a picture of a scene so junked up, it's amazing any of the CBGB's bands ever got anywhere. I saw them 22 times and got to meet all of them over the years, they were all very nice to fans, nothing bad to say about any of them. As for Johnny, I've read all the bad press about him and have to say, you couldn't have met a nicer guy. It was him that kept the band together as long as they did, it was his and Dee Dee's band. People are always going to find something to dislike about someone for all kinds of reasons. Johnnys biggest sin was being a conservative in the entertainment world. He's still my hero, maybe I need to grow up!
