Today I am faced with making a decision which has been tormenting me for a while now. I have to decide whether to look for a new TV or go guitar shopping. There are some good deals for telly's in my area but there's also a couple of Excellent 65's that have been begging me to take them home and I found a Ranger for sale in one of my regular haunts.
I sold a few things on eBay recently and only have so much money.
What to do ...what to do ...
Bill.

Re: An important decision
What TV do you have now and what guitars do you have?

Get the Guitar. It's better for your brain, and overall health.
I have never seen a guitar in the garbage, or on the side of the road. I see TV sets there all the time...
A good guitar can hold, and increase in value over time. Not so much for TVs, unless it's a working Predicta or something...
caveat:
I play guitar 2-3 hours a night, and probably watch 2-3 hrs a week of TV max.
I have never purchased a TV set in my life. I have, however purchased 6 guitars in the last 2 years...
Just my .02

Re: An important decision
Hey Bill, you might even be singularly blessed if you're not plagued by a TV...!!! but if you really want/need one, isn't there anyone in the family or circle of friends wanting to get rid of one? Everybody seems to be tossing out their old big space guzzler to make room for a flat screen...
I have my 20-year old Sony TV still doing great service but in the attic I have a spare '70s clour TV that NOBODY wants and is yours for the taking...
No, I'd go for one (or both) of the little doggies in the window your way...that is...if the decision is solely dependent on yourself...

Re: An important decision
I've been dragging my feet when it comes to getting a flat screen TV and all my friends are telling me to toss my big bulky Sony Trinitron—which still works fine— and move with the times ... but they're not guitar freaks. My reasoning is that the TV's will always be available, but you can't say that about Mosrites.
Hmmm ... the more I think about it the more I think I'll be paying the guitar shop a visit today.
Dnepr you've assessed the situation perfectly.
Thanks for the opinions guys.
Bill.

Re: An important decision
'Remember the oulde hippie bumper sticker, "KILL YOUR TELEVISION!" ?????
A guitar, especially a hot / slick one like a Mosrite is an exponentially much better "have" than a flipping brain-sucking-box.
'Gave it up about 18 years ago while in grad school and never looked back, so to speak.

I don't know if I'd go as far as 'killing' my TV:my most enjoyable moments are when I'm sitting in front of the set with a guitar on my lap, but I do get your drift.

Re: An important decision
my 2 cents
we killed our cable 8 years ago and only watch movies that we have to rent occasionally. it's not the tv itself that is evil. it's the mind rot of constant media. if you get rid of that back ground noise and start listening to your brain, you will....
get much more done..even practicing guitar
get better informed(especially if you have a computer)
get smarter(cause you'll be using your brain to read)
and the very best thing is that you will start to see through all the bs propaganda that is peddled through that darn idiot box after a time. it gets scary when you start to realize how many things you bought into just because it was piped into your brain so much.

My tele is a 12yr old Zenith 25"
