Btw, A few days ago I emailed the guy at Gruhn who sold me my Mosrite. I just heard back from him and he confirmed that this guitar is pretty difficult to date. So I think I'm going to just pick a number... 1968 it is!!!

Sorry, but I think you're off by a few years. New picture to follow...

I appreciate the pics but I'm still not seeing it. What year would you like it to be?

Without reading this entire topic, are you guy's trying to figure out the date stamps on the two photo's above? If so, it is April 1, 1965.

That was my read on it, too. 1965.

Well, that certainly may have been the date the body was roughed out, but I have serious doubts that was the day and year the instrument was assembled, based upon the carve, hardware, neck, etc. You'll also note that the finish was shot over the date stamp, but hours afterward or years? The number of extra screw holes in the neck pocket is also peculiar. I would theorize that these bodies were deemed seconds back in 1965 which would explain why they never received the full '65 German carve treatment, and then completed at a later date, whether by Mosrite or by someone like Gene Moles post bankruptcy auction.

Well now that I went back through and read the entire thread, I have to agree with Adam 100 percent.

Now we're getting somewhere. But is that story consistent with the 1965 pot codes?
Here's mine.

Trust me, your guitar is no '65. Those of us who are a little longer in the tooth, Mosritely speaking, know that each model year has uniquely identifiable features and carves, and there is no doubt that jgs61's is a post-Ventures instrument. As for the pots, at bankruptcy auctions everything must go, and I wouldn't be surprised if the pots in the assembly room were of assorted years. Finally, I have seen Gene Moles Mosrites with the closely grouped three-bolt necks before, and don't think it is too much of a stretch to assume these originated in his shop. But again, these are assumptions based on years of exposure and I welcome a definitive answer if anyone out there has it in his or her back pocket.
