Greetings Mosriters -
Just a word to say hello. I don't yet own any Mosrites, but I love the history of 50s and 60s Southern California guitar builders. I own an exceptionally cool 1959 Carvin double neck (mando / 6-string) that has those AP-6 pickups, and it sounds strikingly similar to the original Joe Maphis recordings. I'll put up a picture of the guitar sometime soon.
ok then! .....

The reason those AP-6's sound so similar is because that's what Joe Maphis had on his double neck during the early years. When Semie started making his own pickups he simply replicated the AP-6 but wound them hotter yet retained the same sound. Looking forward to the photo's of your Carvin.

Oh yeah I know, that's why I mentioned it
The guitar's a pretty cool and bizarre mix of Fender, Bigsby, and Moserite. It sounds exceptional. I'll take some shots of it tomorrow and explain some more little details.

Oh man, I just saw that I wrote "Moserite". Yikes. I guess that's been done before.
Another little tidbit: I also recently played a 1963 bound-body set-neck sidejack. Now that was a nice experience.

Well, it's closer to MOSELEY...the man himselfapossibleworld wrote:Oh man, I just saw that I wrote "Moserite". Yikes. I guess that's been done before.

I had the priviledge to hold and play a bit on a '63 sidejack this month for the very first time since I saw a Mosrite guitar for the first time on the cover of a Ventures album in the early 60's

I can conclude that it needs some time getting used to playing on the a narrow neck...but with the risk of 'getting out of touch' with my Fender Strats
