So, how would you say it sounds compared to your '66 Ventures model?

I think what we have here, is a case of bringing back the Lawsuit Era Guitars of the 70's.......

Gee, thanks Dennis, that's all I don't need.

Mel, the sound is similar and is good but not any where near the same. For my next guitar that I'm about ready to spray the finish, it has Hallmarks pups on it, but I just got a set of Ed Elliot's pups and will be putting them on it instead.
Here's a quote of my comparison from the thread about my new '66.
dubtrub wrote:Got the guitar this evening. It's a nice axe and I am one happy camper. I still don't like those damned old speed frets, but I love that Mosrite sound. I thought the Hallmark pups sounded nice but they just don't have true original Mosrite sound. It reminds me of comparing the multitude of reissue Strat's with my original '62. They all have that familiar Strat sound but they are still missing something, or maybe as Zak would say 'comparing apples to a motorcycle helmet'.
....and as always, thanks everyone for the nice compliments.

Danny, that is one fine looking instrument! And I bet it plays just as good! What do you use for your paint jobs in the way of finishing materials?
Also, I would love to hear your appraisal comparing the originall '66 pickups compared to the Hallmark and the Ed Elliots.
Like you need my suggestions---you should try one with a flame maple top and a burst color like the one on the 40th Anniversary/Brian Lonbeck. You could call it the "Ellison Elite"

I'm also curious how the Elliots will sound. I think you'll get yours together before I get my project running to make the comparison.
More unsolicited advice - put your "E" logo on the headstock and sign it on the back like Semie did with his custom orders.

Did you spray the red over a gold basecoat?

I chose to use the silver underbase to give it more of a darker wine color. The flash from the camera lightens it up. It's a dark red like 'blood.'
dubtrub wrote:it's painted candy apple red using a white sealer, silver under base then topped with 12 coats of clear lacquer wet sanded between each coat then hand polished to a high gloss finish. I had a heck of a time photographing this thing because the finish is like glass.
I should be able to test the Elliot pups this weekend as I have the other guitar all ready and playable still in the 'white'. As for the headstock logo, I've about decided to pass on that idea. Heck, I know who built the guitar.
