Hey man, that's really far out ....the photo has sort of a trippy '60's vibe to it ;).

LOL! I showed this to a couple of my older cousins that had turned me on to "the Ventures"
and they REMEMBERED this SCENE back then, actually from the later 60s!

My first gig outing with my Hallmark Custom 60 is this weekend...should be an interesting
experience to see what she does when I open her up at stage volume in the heat of battle.

Vec,
When you 'open her up' at Stage Volume in the Heat of Battle, You WILL 'Own the Stage! ;)
Just think of it as you just 'floored the Pedal' on one of those Muscle Cars from the 60's....
And to quote what I proudly have mounted on my sunvisor in my Twin Turbo Mitsu VR-4:
"GET IN, SIT DOWN, HOLD ON, SHUT UP!"
.

Well, its been said that if you remember the 60's, you weren't really there ;). I grew up in the silly 60's and the Ventures are one of the few things I do remember...so I guess there's still hope for this old fart !! Since acquiring my Hallmark 60 though I've been trying to relearn all the Ventures songs I used to know back in the day but the mind & hands just don't work as well as they used to. Walk, don't Run, Pipeline, and Apache eventually came back but that friggin' Hawaii 50 is driving me crazy! Oh well, I'll keep plugging away at it until I re-awaken what's left of those 1960's brain cells. And watching those 60's videos of the Ventures playing those songs on YouTube is kinda frustrating because Nokie makes it look so easy...until I try it ;).

Hey Vec, I haven't gotten round to try my hand at Hawaii 5-O yet myself but if it’s any consolation to us, Bob Spalding (the “5th Venture”) had difficulty with it too! (I think I read it somewhere in the Ventures Book) ;)
Can't wait to hear your stage account but in the meantime, have fun! :geek:

It always amazed me how Nokie could remember all those notes, to all those songs...all the while standing there smiling and acting like he's stirring sugar in a cup of coffee.

Ha ha that's funny....I'm glad to hear that someone else (even a 5th Venture) had trouble with Hawaii 5-O too! I about have the songs unusual fingering down...but now I need to work on getting the brain & hands in sync so I can play it at full speed. How the notes are strung together on the fretboard is unlike any other song I've ever played...but it's an interesting challenge. Strange thing is that I don't recall having difficulty with the song back in the day but maybe I wasn't playing it quite right....thank God for tab ;).

Yup, after playing mostly Strats on stage for the past 40 years, I'm excited about my Custom 60's stage debut this weekend. Since receiving it, I've been playing my Custom 60 around the house so much that, when I picked up my Strat the other day for the first time in a few weeks, it felt kinda strange to me! Hope that's a good sign ;).

Might you have been playing the Ventures song "Out of Limits" at the time the photo was taken ;)?
Do, do, do, do....do, do, do, do....!

Has anyone seen the News page on the Hallmark website? :)

Edit: Whoops! Looks like five pictures from the page were linked to one image! I am talking about the guitar in the fourth picture down, The Halmark II. It may very well be the best Mosrite Mark II Slab Body copy yet, I may buy one too!
1966 Ventures II (German Carved, B670.)
1970s "Not a Blues Bender" Bodies: 2.
1976 Brass Rail Deluxe #10.
2013 Fender Pawn Shop Bass VI.

Does anyone know if Hallmark is planning on making "60's Custom Basses"? Sorry If this has been discussed but I haven't read this whole thread yet? Thanks!

The Mark II and '59 Custom have been a tease for sometime. Haven't heard anything about a bass, yet.
