Mosrite Custom Logo?

Postby brian causey » Fri Apr 10, 2009 3:45 pm

Hey Guys,

Just found this forum. Lot's of great information here. I've been playing/collecting/repairing Mosrites since 1992 - this site would've saved me tons of time (and money) if it had been around back then. Anyways...I searched the forum and couldn't find anything...anyone have any info on the Mosrite Logo design with "Custom" written through it? I have one of these on a doubleneck that I have (octave/6string). I'm guessing it's early seventies - can provide more info/photos if needed. Thanks!

Interesting, this is really new to me but then I’m just getting deeper into Mosrite history myself, since January. I hit the internet search button and got one or two hits googling with “MOSRITE CUSTOM” (and I need to search the forum too! )

Here’s just one interesting quote I found…: “Kevin also made Mosrite and a few other shaped bodied customs.”……… http://guitarship.org/aluminum_guitars/?EGC
See also: http://swingscience.biz/Blog/blog_eg/mg002.html ......still need to dig out more…join me in the search, readers?

Welcome to the Mosrite forum Brian :)

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the forum. I don't know how you would look for it in a search, but someone here mentioned doublenecks in the 70's were custom order only-and having an octave neck would certainly have been different in the 70's. Purely conjecture, but perhaps that is where the "Custom" comes into play on the logo(?)
If you have the chance, post a pic of the whole guitar. A lot of folks here would love to see it.

BTW, really have enjoyed your music over the years.

Thanks for the replies, information and welcomes. This place has a wealth of handy info - I think I've clicked on about every thread here...

Glad that my guitars made it here before I did! That white Ventures model is a 90's Ventures reissue that I bought brand new in '94. Unfortunately the circuit board pickguard was only made out of necessity a few years later - as the original split in half on tour a few years later. Same with the stock tremolo bar - split in half at a show. These were the days before you could (easily) find replacements - so you had to make do with what you could find. That pickguard has worked out well - and the giant third party tremolo bar is my most successful mod ever. It changed the way I played - which is always a good thing for me.

That blue '65 Ventures model (in the original post by tonetti) was the best $70 I have ever spent on a guitar. I am convinced that the good luck I had in acquiring this guitar many years ago is the reason I have been nearsighted since I was 10. Everything evens out eventually.

I'll take more pictures of the "Custom" doubleneck in the next few days. I think Strat-o-rama hit the nail on the head about it being a custom order job. I just found the message I had received from Tym in AU about it a few years back and he thought it was '80s saying that the "headstock was used more in the 80's by Semie when he made custom guitars for friends or to pay off accounts , which he did often". FYI - only the octave neck has the "Custom" logo - the 6 neck has the standard "of California" logo. Still curious as to how common guitars with the "Custom" logo are. Anybody else here have or come across one?

Here's a quick shot that I have on file of the "Custom" logo doubleneck.

Sorry about the crappy quality. I'll try and take some better ones this week.

Cool guitar! I've been a fan of MoAM? since the mid 90s. You guys sure did shlep a lot of gear around! Of course, I'm sure anti-gravity pods from the future or something must have helped, and if not that, at least clone roadies.
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

What? Couldn't tell the logo is a link? So click here, what's the hold up? http://www.meshuggabeachparty.com

Haha - much of my work with MOAM? is still classified, but I can tell you that very few things suck worse than carrying 20 TV's downstairs from a club at 3:00 AM after playing a show. Our anti-gravity pods, as you call them (and roadies, for that matter), were much too large to navigate stairwells. Hence our motto, "Twice the effort for half the result". Don't even get me started on the dreaded Tesla Coil...

That double neck is a real beauty! Yea, when you get the chance do post more pics. I would go with Tym on dating it in the '80s as a 'one off' by Semi- front jack with binding and a custom color.
I know I have seen/heard about that "Custom" logo before...
