Hi! New Member From Minnesota

Postby Clinton » Sat May 18, 2013 10:07 am

Hi Everyone,

Just joined the forum, though I should have done it a long time ago, as this is right up my alley! Although I've been playing since the late 70s, I acquired my first Mosrite, a 1966 Mark I Ventures Model, a couple of years ago. (Will try to post some pictures soon.) Being a huge Ventures fan, it has certainly become my go to guitar. Interestingly, the body is a early December 65 and the neck is a late Feb 66, which I guess that makes it kind of a hybrid. No patent number on the Moseley trem and no trademark symbols on the pickups, so this all seems to sync up (I think). It was nicely refinished in darker red color when I purchased it, but it looks like it was orignally ink blue (from what I can see in the neck cavity). Boy, I would have loved it to be the original color, but it's still a joy to play. Wish I had a Fender Showman, but I'm playing through an original 65 Pro Reverb (which I also love), so it certainly has that surf vibe.

Once again, just wanted to say "hi" and say that I am excited about being a member. I certainly have a lot of questions for you folks! :D

Cheers,
Clinton

Hi Tom,

Mosrite serial numbers are always a bit of a mystery. Mine is 3508. It seems odd that your earlier neck has a later serial number than mine. Perhaps they didn't stamp the serial number at the time the neck was manufactured, but when the guitar was finished, which might account for the differences. Perhaps someone on the forum has some more info on this.

Being somewhat of a forum newbie, I'm still trying to determine how to insert pictures right into the post, but I haven't quite figured it out. (Maybe someone can help me with this.) Here are some on Photobucket. That's the best I can do at the moment.

Hi Clinton, And welcome. Here's a link to a thread about posting photos:

I think the finish on your Ventures model looks nice as it is. And yes, Those serial numbers can be a bit odd at times - My Early 1966 Ventures II neck appears to have been stamped one number originally with the original stamp filled in.
