I'm selling my acoustic Gibson, looking to purchase a second-hand Gibson ES-175.. and here comes today a guy offering to swap guitars with one of his several ones - a Mosrite Celebrity III!
Being a country-blues acoustic guitarist with a quest for jazz and improvisation, I had heard this brand but really knew nothing about it. This afternoon I did my best to "make myself a culture" about it, so as to gauge the value of the guitar being offered to and whether it makes sense as an exchange for mine (which is here, in Italian: http://www.mercatinomusicale.com/mm/a_g ... 19946.html)
This guy's Celebrity is a III, s/n K-0994, so it's a 1967ish (as far as I can gather from here: http://www.mosritecelebrity.com/page29.html), cherry red, no tremolo, with original bridge replaced by a roller bridge (is this a pro or con..?). So my issue here is: on a "real" value basis, are my good ol' Gibson acoustic and this very nice Celebrity comparable? Or, put it another way, how would you reckon a Celebrity vs. a Gibson ES-175, keeping in mind I'm after a guitar for jazz improvisation and not really 60's R'n'R..?
