Hello Mosrite Group,

I'm a new member from Cincinnati, OH, USA. I've owned a Ventures model Mosrite since the 80's. This was my first electric guitar. My guitar teacher had one, and I thought it was cool, so I found one too. Bought it off some guy in the Trading Post for $200 bucks, if I'm remembering correctly. He said he had acquired it in Calfornia. It didn't have a case, and had been stripped and refinished with silver bicycle paint (yuk, what was he thinking?). It had a power booster thing installed to give it more gain. There was a hole drilled in the pickguard for the mini switch. The pickup selector switch was missing the metal tip and was worn out. Otherwise, it was all original and sounded awesome. It's #1270 with a Vibramute tailpiece. I believe it's a 1965.

This is what I've done to it over the years: I refinished it back to the original candy apple red (you could see some of the original paint in the neck cavity). I took out the power booster, and replaced the bad switch. The whammy bar was kind of wobbly, so I fitted a rubber washer in it to take up some slack. I found a non-original case for it. I had the neck refretted with some larger frets. I found a proper metal tip for the switch on eBay.

However, I haven't played it in a long time. As I've learned more about what I like in guitar ergonomics, the narrow neck has become a deal breaker. But, the guitar is way too cool to part with, so I'm working on making a replacement neck which is more in line with Gibson/Fender, etc.

Has anyone ever bought a replacement neck, how much did it cost, and did it fit and play well? I might think about buying one if it was a reasonable cost, vs. making one.

ps. I would just like to add that I'm very excited about finding this forum, and looking forward to some good information and discussions about Mosrites.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Here are some pics. Some of them are "before" as it looked when I purchased it, and then some current ones. I have the neck and it's hardware off at the moment so I can measure it.
