'New Guy' 1st Post

Postby Gretschguy » Thu Dec 01, 2011 3:27 pm

Hello everyone! I'm Dave Olson ("Gretschguy"). Yeah, I've got a couple of Gretsches, but my main gigging guitar for many many years was/is an (as near as I can tell) mid- 1970's Ventures style Mosrite ('Ventures' logo on the headstock) that also (unfortunately) says 'Made in Japan' on the neck attachment plate- in spite of all the rest of the hardware saying 'Mosrite of California'. Bought it in 1983 for the princely sum of 200 bucks. Glad to have found this forum!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Was the neck plate rectangular or was it oddly shaped? If it was rectangular yes, You had a MIJ Model.

Welcome to the forum. If it's been your main gigging guitar for years, then whatever the provenance of your Mosrite, it must be AOK.

The pedigree is only important when you go to breed it and sell the puppies... Especially if it's been a good hunting dog until now... (Psst, this is the Mosrite forum!) ...Oops! Well, thinking about it, that still applies!

Welcome!

Welcome Dave! I agree with what Mel and olrocknroller said. I have a MIJ Mosrite myself (model Super Excellent by Kurokumo) and although not made in the USA (preferably even by Semie himself!), I'm proud as punch to be it's new owner! At the risk of getting shot down, I daresay many of the (later) Japanese copies are even better than the handmade instruments by Semie Moseley himself, who in all fairness, could not avail himself of the modern machines and technology that there is today. I hasten to add that all that came from Semie's own hand is superb, even under the less favorable (manufacturing) circumstances of his day! My Japanese copy has all the vibe of an original 8-)
Enjoy the forum, Paul
