Mosrite Ventures II CAD Model - Eventual PDF Drawing :)

Postby Bushers » Tue Sep 09, 2008 3:14 pm

Ok, so I've had a little while to plug away at this model. It's been somewhat taxing translating composite curvature into the model with not many fixed dimensions to go by. What I have (for now) is a 3D shape that's easy to modify, what I intend to do is print out the drawing full size and see how it compares with the real thing then modify the model as necessary, I have had to eyeball many of the compound curves but this will be corrected!

Here's what I have right now;

If anyone wants a copy of the (PRELIMINARY) pdf drawing to check it out, let me know..

More to come :mrgreen:

I seem to be having alot of spare time recently so today I've managed to get the guitar to a semi-completed stage (body-wise). Pics below show body in rendered styling with modelled Spun knobs in their correct location, eventually I hope to have all parts modelled and in the product.

I cannot manage to print this out until I get to one of my suppliers here that has a printer capable of printing something of this size, printing from PDF to my laserjet 5 doesnt cut the mustard!!:D

Very cool indeed!

Does this mean you could send your file to a fabricator, who could then 3-D carve a body out of a block of wood?

Yes, there are many 3D fabricators that will be well aware of Catia and other CAD software that produce solid models, these can also be exported to various file formats that are compatable with 5/3 axis machine programming software. This is a very basic machining in real terms and could be knocked out of a block of wood in no time once a program had been made from the model. All of which I can supply if anyone wants them...

I have overcome my print issue and am getting round it by printing full size letter segments of the pdf and accurately (enough) taping together to compare to the actual guitar, after 5 iterations I am extremely fine tuning this to be an exact profile, it sure looks great now! By the weekend I'll be done, just need a volunteer to make one to the finished print???!!

Do I hear an aye???

Hey Jason, did you also do a drawing of the neck? Also do you have to set the the zoom percentage to 100% to get a full scale print?

I havent done the neck yet, though if its quiet at work the end of next week I might get round to it, I have modified the drawing i sent you a little so that the cutout for the pots is more in tune. i plan on stripping my guitar down again to shim the neck so I get get better action, then i can finally call this project done!

If anyone knows the radius' used on the neck it would be handy, I havent got any gauges (apart from the ones Danny posted) so would make it easier for me!!

To print at full size, set the page scaling to 'none', if you havent got a large print (ie letter only) then just zoom the pdf to 100% view, that way you have an idea of what youre printing, then set the print range to 'current view', that should give you one section, I managed to print it with 4 sheets. Alternatively you could take the PDF to a printers and get them to print it full scale from a plotter, as i would do back home in the UK office...!
