Dennis, last year when I was at Martin, they were showing me those necks, which I had initially thought were made from a type of wood. It is a lamination.

Martin is trying mightily to find woods and other materials that are not in short supply. They have an entire area devoted to these experiments, and a lot of expensive, one-of-a-kind equipment and chambers to measure tone, sustain, vibrations, and such.

They match these new materials against old Martins and other guitars to measure any differences.

It is quite an effort on their part.

Bob Shade; John Lackey, Bob's assistant; our attorney (we are partners on a device I patented that Martin may market) and I will be going up to Nazareth, feeling 'bout half past dead, in a few weeks, and I'll see what they have done in that regard since last year.

You are right about that, except it is a stratabond hardwood laminate not a composite as used on some of their other models. Stratabond is a trademark product of the Rutland Plywood Corporation and is made of dye impregnated wood laminates.

Those are all some pretty slick guitars.
I have a Gibson acoustic which I am very fond of, but I sure do hope to someday have a Martin!

Thanks fellas, my Martin does have a special place in my heart. I will always acquire electrics as the years go, but I only play acoustic in one project I'm in so I only need the one acoustic guitar. It took a while to find the right one. It sounds pristine!

That BFG is a darn fine guitar if I do say so myself! The V is a bit too radical for my tastes but it looks like it plays nicely. Where did you get that Les Paul by the way? It is so gorgeous.

I got it from Long & McQuade. The BFG line was discontinued a few years back but they had one new in the warehouse so I jumped on it. I had one just like it a few years prior and sold it like a dolt. So I had to get another one. It's one of the best LPs I have ever played. The Jackson V although too extreme for your tastes is the best playing guitar I have had my hands on PERIOD. 24.75" scale with 24 frets... That makes stretches super easy and fingering super comfortable. The neck radius is 12" at the nut and it flattens out to 16" above the 12th fret. It's so smooth and fast and you don't fret out no matter how low the action is when doing deep bends due to the compound radius.
