96 SG

Went to my weekly guitar lesson yesterday at my local music shoppe (the e makes it sounds cooler ) and upon the wall was a few Austin LPs, 2009 Strat, Cort Tele, Austin SG and this weird looking SG. I went over to it and thought it was just an Austin of something. I looked at her headstock it said Gibson. My heart raced, this was a very pretty guitar. I asked the chick working there what year, she claimed it was a 96, the tuning pegs looked older than just 96, then again people change em, last owner could of put older ones on the SG. I looked all around from a price tag and I found it. This evil little note read "SG: Gibson. Hard sell included. $489... Now heres where I need your guys help. Is a 1996 Gisbon SG worth almost $5 big ones? I know most everyone here is a Mos' Riter but you never know. I know someones gonna say "Check the serial number on the back" I was so loved struck I forgot to write it down. Thanks for your help guys.

Yeah. It played very very well for a guitar owned by a 15 year old boy. My dad thinks im guitaric-ly challenged so he played it too and say it played nice too.

Sounds okay to me. I like SG's personally. But then again, I'm a bit guitarded. I can't get enough of them!

LOL....All right, this time it was me kidding around. But 5 big ones to me doesn't include a decimal point ................. .

Sounds alright to me but personally I think you would be better off buying my '65 SG Junior.

A few particulars would be nice, and pics would be even better. Gibson has made innumerable variations on the SG over the years--what model is it? $489 could be a good deal depending on what model it is. Street price for an SG Standard (cherry red, large pickguard, two chrome-covered pickups, rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays) would have been around $1500-$1600 new in '96--an SG Special (two black uncovered humbuckers, dot inlays) was a lot less, maybe $7-800. Custom Shop and limited editions would be quite a bit more.
