Mosrite Acoustic ~ ??? any info ???

Postby hotred79 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:39 pm

HI ALL ! First, thanks for having me ! Please be patient, I'm new to the forum thing ! I'm just looking for information on a Mosrite Style # 401, Serial # FB 8025 I purchased at an estate sale from an elderly lady who purchased it for one of her kids in the 60's from a store in St Pete FL called Sanborn's House of Music. She thought it was a 1964 model. That's about all the info I have, and would like to know anything you good folks can contribute ! Im told there's lots of experts here !
Im going to (TRY) to upload pictures.
Thanks in advance for your help ! Much Appreciated, Pat

Welcome to the forum. This one looks like a Serenade to me. Hopefully someone else will come along with more information.

Wow Pat, she appears to be in excellent shape! That should add significantly to it's value I think but I leave judgement of it's present market value to the more knowledgeable folks here ;)

There's a few posts on this forum discussing Mosrite Acoustics in greater detail, Here's one to get you started and a forum search.

You might want to detune the strings when you're not playing the guitar, They seem to have inadequate bracing which causes a crack.

Hi. Thanks, I saw that link and was great ! Also, about the cracking, if you look closely at the pic i posted there is already a crack under each pin on the bridge, not bad, but still worrysome, how big a problem is that? Yes,, it was detuned when I got it, I tuned it up and it sounds great ! Already loosened it up & put it away. I love this little beauty ! Its nice that it came with the original case and Mosrite strap !

without knowing a lot about the acoustic models, my first guess is that this is made in 1966 based on the truss rod cover at the headstock. this was pretty much never done before 66, but again, I'm no expert on the acoustic models.

Sweet looking Balladere you have got there, I like acoustics too & yours in a lot nicer shape than some that have been on e-bay recently. The past few have had the cracked top at the neck joint, which I understand is typical and the last decent one I saw went for around 600 bucks! Nice find!
