G'day to you all. I'm pretty new to the bass world, I have been playing slide guitar and percussion for some years now but made the move to bass when our band went from a duo to a four piece, bass players are hard to find around these parts. In searching for a bass I've become obsessed with finding a mosrite and hence have been reading this forum for some time, so I thought it time to join.

So far I have looked at a 350 stereo but missed that one and at present I'm looking at a early ventures model that has been well played and has some unusual features like a bridge cover with Mosrite of California on it. I'll try get some pics up of it !

Cheers Chris

Here are the photo's I've been sent. I will go have a play of it in the next few days, its kinda cheap, $1100. Described as an early model, well played with a one piece maple neck. Tuners replaced with schaller and original p/u was rewired by a guy called Hallmark who was apparently a luthier with mosrite. Brass plate behind bridge cover reads mosrite 959 and I'm waiting for the seriel number.
Would be interested in what you guys think, there seems to be inconsistances with this bass when it comes to dating it.

Buy it! It looks great, with interesting features. If it plays good... I say go for it.

That's the trashed parts bass that sat around eBay for some time a few months back. If you search the "eBay & Craigslist" portion of the forum I'm sure you will find a thread dedicated to it. From what I remember the body cavity looked as though it had doubled as a termite farm. Might want to have a look under the guard...

Welcome and best of luck.

I noticed it has the screw on plate cover, and not the bolt thru plate which would indicate it is a very early Bass. 1964 or early 65. Not sure exactly when that change took place. At least thats my best guess. :D

If you look in front of the bridge you can see the outline where the bathtub rout for multiple pickups has been filled in. This guitar was listed forever on eBay as dorkrock stated. $1100 is far too high for this. It has zero collectability but may be alright as a player. Save your money and hold out for one in better condition or maybe get it for a bargain price. As for the Hallmark statement, well, Hallmark = Bob Shade is a member of this forum and can advise whether or not he has ever had any involvement with this project guitar. Be cautious.
