Celebrity Roll Call

Postby Sarah93003 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 5:23 pm

I was wondering today how many people on this forum have a Celebrity. I thought it would be interesting to compare them, date them if possible, etc. So, if you have one, please post a picture, the serial number, and it's age if you happen to know.

Mine is either a 1966 or 1967 Celebrity III, to the best of my knowledge. There are a couple of things that I've noted as I've been looking at others. One, is that my strap pin is located directly under the neck joint instead of the upper left bout horn. I have not been able to determine why that is. I've seen older as well as newer Celebrity's with the pin on the horn. Was it an arbitrary placement at the factory? Also, I've seen discrepancies with the Mosrite label on the inside of the F hole. Mine says "Celebrity", I've also seen "Archtop", and "Celebrity #3".

So, here is mine, serial number N0772

So, come all you Celebrity onwers, let's see yours!

HELLO
First of all you have a cel. 2 --c3s did not come from the factory with a vibrato--as to the label--some did differ-- it depended on which employee and when they were put in--The strap button was pit at the neck to balance the guitar because of the extra weight of the vibrato--good luck with your list---Andy

Jimmy wants a Celebrity!!!

They are way-cool guitars.

I am selling a couple of guitars on eBay now in hopes of being able to score a Celebrity after they sell.

Hi Andy and welcome to the forum. According to my research mine is a Celebrity III - Mark I; and the vibrato was an optional item. The Celebrity II had chrome tuning keys and the Celebrity had the white plastic tuning keys. I've attached some Mosrite literature that shows the Celebrity III with the vibrato and the specification sheet shows it as optional equipment.Image

Let me know what ya'll think.

There's one for sale in my local shop as well, a Celeb III with vibrato, wine red with pretty heavy finish checking. I think it was $900.
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!
