mosrite forever ..........

Postby TimR » Thu Jun 04, 2009 10:57 am

Hey guys! Glad to have found you. I have been a Mosrite fan since you could buy a new Ventures model for $398.00, in the 60's. I have owned 50 or so over the years -Combos, Celebrities, Maphis models, Brass Rails, Bluesbenders, every sort of Ventures models including re-issues and clones. Most are gone now  My son still has my old Bluesbender that he took with him to Taiwan. I recently sold a Royal '63 Jap re-issue that I really loved. I am definitely in the market for one of those Hallmark Custom 60's, though.
Trying to keep the costs down, as my wife thinks things like groceries and rent are more important. :?

Welcome to the Forum, Tim. Obviously your wife is confused - has some misplaced priorities, it seems.
So many guitars; So little time ..

Welcome to the forum

If you are in California, check out the new Mosrites at Front Porch Music. The new Mosrite Ranger is the economy version and is a very nice guitar. Also check out our ongoing thread about Hallmarks custom 60's in the clone section. They too are great guitars.

Hey Tim,
I'm glad the Ventures never had the same attitude towards guitars as your wife. Can you imagine how lame they would have looked standing on stage holding a bag of groceries and a rent check?
Pitiful ... juuuust pitiful.
Bill.

Yeah, my wife has always had a problem with priorities. Crazy, though, back when I had about $35,000.00 tied up in guitars, amps, etc., she accused me of having my priorities out of whack!

I lived in San Diego area for about 15 yrs., but am in Eastern KY. now, of all places. They've never even heard of surf music here. (I did hear some guys do a bluegrass version of walk don't run once, though :o )

I used to haunt all the SoCal music stores, but I guess they didn't have Front Porch back then. (I've been gone about 7 yrs.) My daughter lives in the Bay area though. I visit her once in a while. I'm not familiar with the Rangers. You say they're made by Fillmore Japan?

The Bluesbender is a great guitar. Has sort of a Les Paul type neck -wide/ thick/ & big frets. Other than that, tons of Mosrite character.

You're right, I may see some of my old stuff here. Maybe I even sold some of it to some of you?!!

Welcome to the forum, TimR! You'll be sure to find all sorts of infromation about Mosrite guitars here as long as you look, I went from "Mosrite newbie" to "Mosrite not-a-newbie" In a few months.

I've been reading about Bluesbender models recently and they sound like very good guitars, I'd love to play one if I could find one. just out of curiosity, Did you ever have or play a Mosrite Mark II Slab Body model?
1966 Ventures II (German Carved, B670.)
1970s "Not a Blues Bender" Bodies: 2.
1976 Brass Rail Deluxe #10.
2013 Fender Pawn Shop Bass VI.

I had a '66 Red Ventures model that I guess would have qualified as a Mk II -but I'm not sure about the "slab body" part. I also had an original '63 set neck side-jack that I sold to a Japanese gentleman at a Pasadena guitar show back in the early 90's. I had a couple of '65's and one '64, with the large "Ventures" logo, and a bolt on neck. The Japanese reissue "Royal '63", was probably the best playing one I ever owned. It was beautiful. The original '63 was actually pretty crude, as Semie had not yet really refined his art. I never met Semie, but had several conversations with his wife Loretta, after his death, and a brief encounter with his brother, Andy. Loretta was a very sweet and gracious lady.
