Electrical Hum on Mosrite Mark 1

Postby khanson » Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:21 am

I have a 74 two pickup Mosrite Mark 1 bass which I love. However, it is spoiled for me by the loudest hum of any of my guitars. I am told that Mosrites are known to be noisy, this seem unreasonable to me.

All of the electrical work seems to be professional and in order.

I have had the cavity lined in tinfoil which didn't help. I was told that the tone control could be contributing to the problem and I'm having a new control put in.

If that doesn't help, I'm going to consider replacing the pickups. Seymour Duncan makes them.

Does anyone own a Mosrite bass that is reasonably quiet?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

My 65 & 66 Ventures are a little noisey, not too bad. I think you half to suffer for the tone. I wouldnt change the pickups, dose it go away when you move? Have you tried diff cables? I dont think the tin foil is the same stuff as shielding. Are there any floresent lights around you when you play? do you notice anything while your actually playing?
I regret not the things i have done, but the gear i did not buy.
