They probably haven't been cleaned since the thing was produced. Lots of little specs of rust and dirt coming out on the sides.
Good job! I would still be doing the string 'pulleying' (
) procedure even though you've freed them now because in so doing, you grind away any muck still hanging around; so just to make sure you keep 'em rollers rolling
