Re: The neck size of Mosrite guitars
Perhaps oddly and definitely blessedly, 'never really had "issues" with any good or excellent quality guitar neck.
As an admitted not-speed-obsessed guitarist with truly average-sized hands, everything from a Mosrite speed neck to LP to Jazzmaster to Tele to SG to 335 to Fender VI to Strat to jazzbox "fits."
The Mosrite tho is truly in a class by itself. 'Am really envious of players who can get all the speed that neck has in it.
One exception; a 5-string bass with JB styling, man, that neck feels as wide as a sidewalk!

Re: The neck size of Mosrite guitars
the first time I played a mark V it was a little hard for me getting use to, but at that time I was only using les pauls. remember a lot of the 60's fenders had the thin necks too. On many modern guitars I've never really liked the big frets on them, usually for me I notice when the frets are a little smaller, I have less hang up with fret buzz, high frets, etc.
Even though my favorite mosrite necks are the wider thin 70's necks, I love the 60's versions as well, and I wouldn't replace the neck on my johnny model for anything in the world.
bigger frets and wider necks could work on a mosrite (a brass rail or 350 model for example) but to me a ventures neck with speed frets are freakin golden. just one man's humble opinion.

BTW, the Phil Baugh clip is probably '64 or '65. I saw Phil's doubleneck in person and it was most assuredly a '64. The song "Country Guitar" that he's playing in the video was released around the same time, not earlier.

Oh WoW!!! Deke, are Phil Baugh's necks bolted on? Another words,
it's not like Damon67, being that Damon's is a '63 Double neck........

That makes two of us! I can't remember the neck construction though.

How did this thread stray so far off topic.

Re: The neck size of Mosrite guitars
Personally I love the neck on my Celebrity. It is totally comfortable feel and I love the little frets. I have several guitars and they are all different but I do note that it doesn't bother me shifting from one to another. When we jam I might go from my 1961 Guild X50 to Gretsch Annie to Mosrite Celebrity and never a hiccup. I like the diversity. Incidentally, I have a friend named Joe Baugh who is related somehow to Phil. Joe is an excellent guitarist in his own right.

Re: The neck size of Mosrite guitars
Years ago, 'read some historical stuff on Amtonio Stradivati violins and violas in use today. If memory serves, modern players were not amicable to the smaller necks (and or fingerboards?) and they were replaced with bigger ones, somewhere along the instruments' lives.
Anyone else seen or heard this...and some day further out in history will same be done to 60s-70s Mosrites...?
And another thought; Semie M was a big man with likely big hands and this was what he continued ideal...
