I surf the Internet a lot and dream about owning a large garage full of cherry Pontiac Firebirds, Dodge Challengers, cool guitars and big Fender amps way out in the hill country.

Ever since I traded in my Ventures II for a Martin 0028, I played that for about ten years for my own enjoyment...but that was only until I moved out of California. I spent 25-30 years not playing anything. Then I re-connected with an old friend was was into playing cowboy styled songs (my own background was rock even though I did enjoy groups like Poco and then there was Dan Fogelberg, but I digress).

Because I wanted to play again but not compete with my friend, I bought a square top resonator (Welcher/Scherhorn). OK, I know its from China but it was the best sounding square top under $1,000 that McCabes Music in Santa Monica had (they had about 8 different manufacturers). Its like learning to play all over again ...confusing ...frustrating ...invigorating.

Maybe someday I'll get a real life.

Besides family & dayjob, music takes most of my time. But I read something every day, and watch movies and documentary films sometimes.

I do have one hobby other than music though: running. Slow speed but long distance. I ran my first marathon last year.
This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!

OK, I'll bite. Most of my time is consumed between family, the day gig as a software engineer, and music related activities. I'm also a fan of vintage cars, and have owned three: a '68 Oldsmobile Cutlass S convertible, a '58 Ford Thunderbird and most recently a '68 Buick Sport Wagon 400. I've tried to work on the cars as much as possible myself, but lack of knowledge along with lack of tools and lack of time limited my success in this endeavor.

Beyond that, I help my wife with her pop-culture, "kitsch" collectible business, KookyKitsch: http://www.kookykitsch.com In 2002, we were proudly honored as the "tackiest home in the Bay Area" on local TV station KPIX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH7hhJbzZnw

I've also done some small time acting (History Channel re-enactments!) and modelling jobs (industrial advertisements) and my wife managed to get us on HGTV's Design Remix:

When not drooling over guitars I'm drooling over custom steel-framed road bikes - the human powered version. I was an avid cyclist - now I'm a sometime cyclist. I used to ride with a club, getting up at 5:30 am every Saturday morning and some Sundays to ride half-way around Oahu, and sometime all the way around the island. But late night gigs and early morning rides don't mix too well. All it took was one late night gig to throw me off the early-rising routine. I hate getting up early to begin with.
Now I just walk for excercise, but I'll go out and pedal when I know I have time. I do pedal to work everyday though - about a 3 mile ride.

Mel, that is really cool that you and your wife were shown in you home and interior decorations on national television. Not only is your band outstanding, so is your home. It's nice to have a celebrity among our midst. I hope everyone takes the time to watch all the videos. Quite a good looking couple.

Danny, please!

We had a lot of fun with those home tour and home improvement tv spots. For those who watch the whole HGTV piece, you'll note that the key to a beautiful room is having 90% less stuff in it - ie, notice how the two bulky desktop computers miraculously become a single laptop! It got cluttered again soon after, but it's still a better layout and the walls are... GREEN!

As for the kitsch, it's fun to decorate on the cheap and all the knick-knacks remind us not to take life too seriously.

Going to run another marathon next saturday! I just hope it doesn't rain too much. Last saturday would have been the optimal running weather for me (nice, no rain or heavy wind, approx + 10 C out).
This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!
