Another Ramones nut joins the forum to build THE tribute guitar…

Postby ONS » Thu May 02, 2019 5:02 am

Hi,
I’m a Ramones nut from Sweden. I’m here as I think Mosrites in general, and specific the Ventures II version 1 (the slab, Johnny Ramone guitar), are the coolest looking guitars ever made. The sound on Ramones Road to Ruin is also the best Guitar sound I have ever heard.

My goal right now is to build my own Ventures II slab guitar. It will be THE tribute guitar and I hope to get help from you experienced Mosrite maniacs out there.

My first hurdle is to find drawing/dimensions for the Ventures II slab version. PLEASE PM or send a link.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.
There are several references to Mosrite drawings on the forum. A quick search should reveal many.

Hi and thanks!
Yeah, I found a drawing for the Ventures II German Carve I've also found that the "slab version" should be about 96% of the size except "outside of the horns" which is about 92% (?)
I've also found (from measuring pictures) that the headstock is 90% of the length and only 64% of the width(?)

However, these are just judging from pictured when trying to scale with the neck as reference.
I guess that many forum members has access to the real drawing/outline or could do an easy sketch putting the guitar on a piece of paper, draw the outline and then put in some reference on the "drawing". That would truly make me super happy!

Welcome to the forum from another huge Ramones fan!

I don't own a Mosrite, but I do own the Hallmark Johnny Ramone model and absolutely love it. I saw that another member has offered to send you a complete set of Mosrite drawings for your build ... these will be the best information to build an authentic tribute. Let me know if you have any questions or need any information about the Hallmark guitar to help with your project. Good luck and have fun.

Hi Dino,
Thanks!
I've sent the PM so I'm restlessly waiting for the drawings.
However, even if I get the drawings for the original, it would be nice to know the size of the Hallmark headstock!

Is the nut 39 or 42mm?
What is the length of the headstock (from the Zero fret to upper right "horn")?
The width (at the widest part of the top),
At the most narrow middle
And at the widest bottom-line (before it gets slimmer)

Btw, my message/PM is stuck in "outbox" and not in the "sent" folder. Is that "normal"?

Best Regards

Here are actual measurements taken from my Hallmark:
The nut itself measures 40.6mm wide, while the fretboard beneath the nut is 41.1mm wide.
The headstock length is about 179mm from the crown of the zero fret to the tip of the upper right "horn".
The width across the top of the headstock is 66.7mm
The narrowest part of the headstock across the middle is 54.0mm
The widest portion at the bottom of the headstock (before it tapers to transition toward the neck) is 61.6mm
I hope these help.

Thanks for your detailed measuring!
The drawing I received was unfortunately the same as I hade before and for the German Carve version.

I someone could put their Hallmark or real Mosrite slab version on a piece of paper, draw the outline for the body, print some reference measurements and take a picture it would be precise enough I guess.

Thanks to you all trying to help. I do appreciate your efforts!
