Did he say HE broke the truss rod, or did he say it was like that when he got the guitar. If the noise just appeared it's obvious he broke it. He should repair it. Unless he told you upfront adjusting the truss may break it.

Well, another turn of events... I recently moved to Ocala Fl and had a local guy take a look at it. He was able to tap the tension rod back into place and adjust the neck. All cleaned up now and playing great.

That's another subject that should probably be addressed; Truss Rods. Aren't Mosrite Truss Rods removable for the most part? I've done it on my early 66 Ventures II. I don't know which modern companies have this feature, it would have been nice on my Bass VI since the rod doesn't seem to work.

I have always thought them to be. I think it has to do more with the construction of the neck, I believe Fender did it an entirely different way.
