Here's a try at some more pictures...

As you can see the guitar has not been well cared for at all. The kids many years ago knocked off the end of the headstock.

I'm a bit confused.
Sarah in the original post it says the Serial number is C30001.
Then demorganjr posts photos of another Celebrity marked C30001. So which is the actual C30001, and did the person selling you the original Celebrity claim it to be C30001 ?
If so will you be in contact with that person for clarification ?

Just a bit confused.

Be doing some poking around the website, and I'm pretty sure that the Dennisthe Menace of this board is the Dennis Sanders that I played with between about 67 to 70. High school garage band that played mostly rec centers around Miami and Hialeah, Fl. Definitely a Mosrite fan.

I've had my Mosrite since I bought it from Dennis sometime between '73 and '75.

I see that Dennisthe Menace hasn't posted in the last year. I talked to him several years back and now can't find his number. Does anyone know if he is still alive and kicking?

Here's a picture of the band with Dennis playing his Mosrite... he's on the far right, I'm next to him playing the Hofner bass.

By the way, we were not "The Dead End Street"... we were "Stonewall", the high school yearbook got the caption wrong.

Yes that appears to be the same Dennis. Don't know any of the details.

Dan, I'm of the opinion that two necks were stamped with the same serial number. I've heard that it happened occasionally. There are interesting differences between these two guitars. Also worth noting is the use of the old control panel instead of the banana shaped control panel we see on the vast majority of 1972's. I think when the reboot occurred in 1972 Semie used all bodies at his disposal and evidently there were some of the old style laying around. The pot codes on this one are from 1968 which indicates "old" inventory.

Thanks so much for the link. So sad to hear about this, I'm just a few days older than Dennis having been born on the 15th of that same year.

Sarah, given my guitar was cobbled together of "old stock" I would suppose that it was the first of the two guitars. Mind you, it makes no difference to me. My logic here may be faulty.

I have a guitar repair place near me that I talked to yesterday, he said he would love to put the guitar back into shape. The frets on this one don't look very worn at all, I rarely played it over the years.

I think I saw some talk about the different knobs found on the Mosrite guitars, thought it was interesting that mine has two of the knobs with the "V" included...Image

That is interesting. It could be someone replaced them at some point in time. The 1972 would have the tall hat knobs with no "V" or "T". These short knobs were used previously.

Well, I thought I post a little turn of events on this thread...

I decided to have a local guitar guy fix up the Celebrity a bit and make it playable again. Replaced the pickup switch that wasn't working well, that also went ok. The frets were shot so he refretted the neck, that seems ok. The nut was somewhat messed up so he added a zero fret, that seems ok.

Here's where things went wrong... in adjusting the truss rod I guess it went wonky, and introduced a rattle in the neck. He said he couldn't fix that without removing the fretboard and fixing the truss rod somehow.

So, now my what was somewhat playable guitar is unplayable with a really bad rattle whenever an "A" is played. If you tap the neck with you can hear it rattle.

Is this a lost cause?

peace, don
