Mosrite-styled basses with 32" or longer scale?

Postby bumblebeetwist » Wed Oct 02, 2013 11:14 pm

Are there any options for Mosrite-inspired basses with 32" or longer scale-lengths? Curious if anybody's ventured from the orig short-scale bass specs...

The new Hallmark 63 Custom and 65 Custom basses are 32" scale. I believe it gives the player a little more depth and tone. Stay tuned for the new page on the Hallmark website soon. If you would like to see any images sooner please let me know.

Best, Bob

I built a 34" scale Mosrite replica bass based on a tracing of my 65 Ventures body. I enjoy playing it but frankly the ergonomics of the instrument get a little stange when you go to a 34" scale. I have to hold the bass side-saddle in order to be able to comfortably play the lower frets. I have a 32" sleeve length so that probably contributes but I played my 65 bass for many years without having to make any unusual adjustments. The carve on the body prevents moving the tailpiece and bridge back if you still want to retain the Mosrite look. I think I didn't do too bad retaining the Mosrite vibe but just be careful if you ask for something over 32".
