Hi Mel,
That bit in your photo looks like a raised panel door bit. . . far to shallow to create the nice shape of the Mosrite carve. But perhaps Semie had custom knives for his production. I would think that Ed would have the real info on how it was done for production . I've seen Ed's starting cove bit route. Not sure what radius, but continues the carve with very gritty sanding disks. Danny could step in on this as well and let us know his approach. There are also other very talented builders out there that could chime in.

I have a hunch that there never was a set of custom shaper knives that created the carve, rather it was done the same way Ed Elliot does it as he was there. And he has many of the heavy tools that Semie actually used during construction years. I could be wrong.-Terry

LOL! Looks like you've been fighting the Battle of the "Bulge"...I know your pain. I'm the designated "German carve sander" in our shop. I've experienced that frequently. Just gotta pace yourself.

I bought myself one of those little detail sanders with various shaped heads...not very many places for me to raise blisters anymore!

For what it's worth. I know all about blisters but don't get them anymore. Before I start any thumb/finger sanding I put masking tape on my fingers before I start. . . . works every time. -Terry

but it is not the sanding the cause ,it is my little plane ;it become less sharpen then i have more push it ,then between skin and brass who is winner ?
i have to resharpen it and at this time i don't know how but i didn't have need it anymore now it will be sanding ;
i am at my home (searching fo work)not at my workbench
i rebeguin this week end,sometimes when it don't work it is good to let some time before continu

Tough to keep planes sharp ! Depends on the wood of course, but I worked some old pine that blunted the plane in ten minutes flat ! Then it becomes too sharp .. lol
Nice going on the G carve .. onwards through the valley of sanding ..
