MOSRITE SUPER EXCELLENT (Kurokumo)

Postby Veenture » Thu Aug 11, 2011 1:27 am

Gang, I just pulled the trigger on this here big fella on ebay!! -------> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0597112646
I'm excited and a bit emotional too...(snif-sniff). It's my first guitar that actually says "Mosrite of California" on it, even though it's a Mo' from Japan.
I didn't want it to slip away and so hit the BUY IT NOW button $1275... d'ya think I did OK or...?

...............................Image

I'd like to lay my hands on a waterslide decal... "The Ventures model"... to replace the one currently on the (black) headstock.
Now for that old excercise in WAITING, again...

Now that's one nice Mossie!

I think that what a guitar is to you is more important than its "market" value. I have my first "new" guitar, a 1967 Hagstrom II that wouldn't be worth much if I put it up for sale, but it has become worth more than the dollar value to me because of the years of memories it represents...

You did good! I first saw this guitar listed in the classified section over on the Surf Guitar 101 forum. http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/15844/
I think the Super Excellent Mosrite's have the Ventures logo. Let us know when you get it.

Congratulations Paul! Not only is that an excellent guitar (oh, the wit!) but it's a good price - I paid about that for my first Mosrite - a "regular" Excellent model.

Also, having had the chance to compare the Excellent to the '66 I got subsequently, I can tell you the Excellent nails the playing feel and tone with a very accurate super slim neck profile and small frets. It's a speed fret job away from being indistinguishable from a vintage Mosrite.

Again, congratulations and may you make beautiful music together!

Paul, the Kurokumos are truly great reproductions -I've owned several. They capture the "Semie Vibe". The frets are slightly higher than the originals, but to me that is a good thing. I believe, back in the 90's when I bought some Kurokumos, the entry level "Excellent", said "Excellent" on the base of the vibrato, but they all had the "Ventures" logo on the headstock. Eventually the Ventures got them to quit using their logo on all of their models. (Late 90's -maybe early 2000's) I think (and I could be wrong), it was then they came out with the "Super Excellent", which was basically a "Excellent" with a "Vibramute" tailpiece. It will be a great complement to your Hallmark C-60. As to price, I think you did good.
